As the Interim Vice President of Global Quality at Panasonic Avionics Corporation, I am responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality products and services that meet and exceed customer expectations, while complying with global and regional aviation and other regulations.
To me, quality is about meeting the requirements and expectations of our customers. I take the role of listening to our valued airline partners seriously. In addition, I am deeply committed to ensuring quality is part of every aspect of our Company culture. This is no simple task. I am reminded daily that it’s not simply checking a quality box.
As a leader, I encourage our teams to live out the mantra: “I own quality.” I truly enjoy motivating our teams to strive to “own quality” throughout all aspects of their jobs and personal lives. I work closely with our business partners in various groups and departments around the globe to ensure we deliver on our quality commitments.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Yamaguchi University, Japan, I joined Panasonic as an electrical engineer in 1990. Over the years, I have worked primarily on the B2B side in building management systems, stage lighting systems, home security systems and personal locator systems. I have also had the opportunity to lead various teams in design work, including custom analog/digital Large-Scale Integration circuits and systems.
In 2006, I transitioned to Osaka-Japan based Avionics Business Unit (ABU) as a project manager of more than 100 engineers with the enormous challenge to develop and deliver a Cabin Services System (CSS) for the Boeing 787 and 747-8. This was a “first ever” achievement when these systems were installed. Notably, our CSS work was recognized with the President’s Award in 2013, which was presented by the CEO of Panasonic Corporation.
After completion of the initial Boeing delivery, I moved to engineering administration where I managed certification and qualification activities for inflight entertainment and CSS. In 2016, I relocated from Japan to sunny California and became Director of Product Quality Assurance.
After nearly 30 years with Panasonic in various roles, the primary driver that keeps pushing me forward in this highly competitive, lighting-fast industry is, and will always be, the people.
When we build trust both inside and outside of our immediate organization, we can succeed in the most difficult challenges. The power of trust naturally creates a desire to collaborate and the shared belief that together we can achieve the impossible. In my free time, my love for aviation has also grown into a passion for capturing incredible photographs of airplanes.
