Kimberly Chainey

General Counsel

As the new General Counsel at Panasonic Avionics, I work with a talented team to provide legal support. Being an executive team member and Panasonic Avionics’ Chief Legal Officer, I will manage legal issues and promote a disciplined compliance culture. My core focus will be on leading complex projects and transactions, overseeing the management of commercial contracts, and further developing the legal team. Additionally, I will work with company leaders to analyze legislation and determine its effect on Panasonic Avionics.

Prior to Panasonic, I spent more than 15 years working with Fortune 500 companies and top law firms supporting venture businesses, global companies, and government entities.

After several years practicing at law firms, I started my corporate legal career at The Hershey Company where I spent approximately seven years. I began as legal counsel supporting sales and strategy in North America. Later, I transitioned to global markets in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa serving as the lead attorney for Global Operations and Global Supply Chain. Before leaving Hershey, I served as the Associate General Counsel, International, where I led legal teams that supported Hershey’s International Business Unit.

Following Hershey, I joined the Avis Budget Group. While at Avis, I held roles as the Associate General Counsel for Global Mergers & Acquisitions, Strategy and Innovation and Associate General Counsel & Legal Lead in the Latin America and Asia Pacific regions. In those roles, I led several legal teams and supported the company in strategy and global mergers and acquisitions. We operated worldwide and my teams focused on the travel and tourism industry.

Prior to starting my career, I attended the University of Pennsylvania where I earned a master’s in business administration from the Wharton School and a Juris Doctor from the law school. Before graduate school, I received a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in environmental science and public policy from Harvard University. I am currently admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Some personal achievements that reflect my role in the legal community include Savoy’s Magazine naming me as one of the Most Influential Black Lawyers in the United States in 2018; and in 2017, I was recognized as one of Crain’s 100 Leading Women Lawyers in New York City. I have also served on the boards of local museums and for legal service organizations for the poor. I enjoy giving back to the programs and people who helped shape my career path and journey.

At the end of the day, I live by several values that can be summarized in these two thoughts: (1) You should always treat everyone with dignity and respect; and (2) You must always try your best. I believe that if you do these two things, you will never fall short.

My hobbies include cooking and learning to play golf (although poorly). My favorite sports team is the American football team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
