Sustainability Spotlight: Etihad Bakes Sustainability Into Loyalty Program

At the end of 2021, Etihad Airways launched Conscious Choices, a new part of its loyalty program geared toward making travel more environmentally conscious. It’s considered to be the first green rewards program in the airline industry.

The program is part of Etihad Guest, the airline’s loyalty program that enables customers to collect points they can exchange for a suite of rewards that includes electronics, fashion items, flights, and accommodations.

With Conscious Choices, Etihad is giving customers additional miles for making more sustainable choices while traveling—and while at home, too. Customers can earn miles by reducing and offsetting personal emissions, cooking dinner at home instead of getting packaging-heavy takeout, donating miles to environmental organizations, and by exchanging their miles for more sustainable rewards.

Conscious Choices is a part of Etihad’s mission to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, and halve 2019 emissions by 2035. The program joins other sustainability initiatives at Etihad, including incentives for passengers to reduce luggage weight, paperless boarding, carbon offsetting, and increasing the efficiency of aircraft and airline operations.
