SINGAPORE – October 26, 2016 – Sport 24, the IMG-owned and produced 24/7 channel for the inflight industry, is to launch an extension of the current channel line up with a daily news service in 2017.
The latest development for the channel follows last summer’s launch of Sport 24 Extra, a linear channel providing airline passengers with a choice of premium sport across two channels live in the air.
Sport 24 News will feature highlights and breaking news from top sporting events and leagues from around the world on a non-linear basis for both connected and non-connected aircraft.
Sport 24, which was launched in 2012, is exclusively available on Panasonic’s market-leading eXTV television network using the company’s eXConnect in-flight Ku-band communications service.
Richard Wise, SVP and head of Inflight for IMG Media, said: “We are always looking at ways to enhance our offering to viewers in the air and this will be a significant enhancement to the Sport 24 offering. Sports fans not only want to see the very best sport live but also to be kept abreast of the latest news from around the world on a daily basis. The addition of Sport 24 News, alongside live action on Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra, now provides even more choice for airline passengers.”
Scott Scheer, Director, eXTV for Panasonic, added: “This latest extension of the partnership between Panasonic and IMG will take full advantage of the new content distribution solutions enabled via the Panasonic connectivity solutions – be it satellite, gate Wi-Fi, or cellular networks. Sport 24 has forever changed the in-flight experience and Sport 24 News promises to broaden that effect even further. We are looking to make Sport 24 News available to as wide an audience as possible and are considering very creative commercial models.
